John Wick Franchise Continues with Ballerina and The Continental
Some of us are still recovering from the frenzy of action in abundance that has been the fourth installment of John Wick. The film starring Keanu Reeves hit theaters on March 24 with a symphony of shots, beatings, and machetes of all kinds. The film leaves us in an “interlude” in the main saga, but the universe of John Wick and the Alta Mesa goes beyond when Keanu Reeves puts on his armored suit to avenge the death of his dog.
There are two scheduled appointments so that fans of this action franchise don’t miss a beat: Ballerina and The Continental.
Ballerina
The new film Ballerina, will mainly focus on how Winston made the Continental hotel in New York, and we can enjoy it through Prime Video. Ana de Armas will give life to Rooney, the dancer from John Wick 3: Parabellum played by Unity Phelan. For the cameos of the main saga, the producer of John Wick 4 and Ballerina, Erica Lee, spoke with Collider that only Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves will reprise their roles.
Regarding cameos, Fishburne, the late actor who played Charon in the franchise, only filmed one day, while Ian McShane will carry a bit more weight as Winston. Lee details that Keanu Reeves filmed for more or less a week, and she calls it an “extended cameo.” Ballerina will also feature Anjelica Huston, who will play Headmistress Ruska Ruma in John Wick 3: Parabellum. There is still no scheduled release date for the film directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld).
The Continental
The Continental, another spin-off of the John Wick franchise, will arrive on Prime Video this 2023. According to sources, this will be basically three hour and a half films that will follow the Continental hotel and its residents. Although there is still no confirmed cast, the production company anticipates that the New York Continental will again play an important role in the film, even if it is “just in passing.”
John Wick fans have a lot to look forward to with these two spin-offs that will continue the saga and explore the world beyond Keanu Reeves’ legendary character. With Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles, these spin-offs are sure to bring just as much action and excitement as the original films.
