Exclusive Interview with Wolfgang and Annette Kubicki by Caroline Beil

Wolfgang and Annette Kubicki: private couple chat with Caroline Beil

Wolfgang Kubicki, the FDP and Bundestag Vice, is opening up in a new podcast called “Couple Talks” alongside his wife, Annette Marberth-Kubicki. Along with friends Caroline Beil and Dr. Philipp M. Sattler who moderates the podcast, the couple delves into their personal life, including their marriage and Wolfgang Kubicki’s childhood. They have been together for 34 years, 26 of them married.

During the podcast, Kubicki talks about his childhood and how he was a restless and energetic child who was already doing business back then, specifically marble exchange. Even now, he can’t resist some witty teasing towards his wife, who is a lawyer.

When asked about who does the cooking, Kubicki replies by saying: “God forbid, if she cooked, I would have to eat that too.” But his wife counters that she cooked once during lockdown, and he actually liked it.

Despite their long-standing relationship, there are still some issues that they have to work through. Kubicki doesn’t like getting orders from his partner, while Marberth-Kubicki finds his unpunctuality to be a major disruptive factor. That being said, their relationship has come a long way, with Marberth-Kubicki mentioning that the days of arguments and fussing are long gone.

The couple’s meeting story is also an interesting one. They met through a colleague of Marberth-Kubicki’s, and the two used to stand at the bakery together. Kubicki chatted her up about the weather, and despite Marberth-Kubicki’s initial skepticism about his height, they ended up falling in love.

Their best experience together, according to Marberth-Kubicki, was when Kubicki sang “Capri Fischer” by Rudi Schuricke for her on her 40th birthday. Apparently, he even has a very nice singing voice.

The Kubicki couple currently resides in Strande near Kiel, and they also have an apartment in Mallorca. The podcast offers a rare glimpse into the private lives of public figures and shows that even politicians have their own personal struggles and triumphs.
