"Last Christmas" by Wham! loses chart record to THIS song

“Last Christmas” by Wham! Loses Record to “Roller” by Apache 207

Since its release in 1984, “Last Christmas” by Wham! has been a Christmas classic that divides opinions. While some love it, others hate it. However, the song has now lost its record as the hit that has been in the charts the longest to “Roller” by the German rapper Apache 207. The song, published in 2019, has been in the charts for 162 weeks, according to the market research company GfK Entertainment. “Last Christmas” comes in second with 161 weeks, but it faces competition from Tom Odell’s “Another Love”, which is set to surpass “Last Christmas” on the charts this Friday. The love song has been in the charts for 161 weeks and was released in 2013.

Another Christmas song, “Wonderful Dream” (2001) by Melanie Thornton, is also in the top five of the songs that have stayed in the charts the longest. The Weekend’s “Blinding Lights” (2020) is in fourth place with 140 weeks, while Melanie Thornton’s “Wonderful Dream” is in fifth place with 135 weeks.

GfK Entertainment calculates the chart positions based on sales and usage data from 2,800 retailers, taking all sales channels into account. According to the market research company, this covers 90 percent of all music sales.

Although “Last Christmas” is no longer the hit that has been in the charts the longest, it remains a popular Christmas song that has stood the test of time. Meanwhile, “Roller” by Apache 207, which has taken the top spot, has become a hit in its own right and is loved by many.
