Rumors were rife as to why Cruise skipped his big night, with some speculating that he was prevented from attending due to filming commitments for the new “Mission: Impossible” film. But according to an insider source who spoke with the “Daily Mail,” private matters were the real reason.
The grapevine suggests that Cruise and Kidman are still not on forgiving terms, which could explain why Cruise decided that he couldn’t deal with the possibility of running into his ex-wife at the awards ceremony, skipping it altogether. An insider mentioned, “Tom wasn’t there because she was there and he didn’t want a fight to happen.”
Interestingly, both Cruise and Kidman have only been seen together at the Oscars on one occasion since their divorce in 2001. Once a happy couple, their marriage had ended due to a conflict over Kidman’s refusal to join Scientology, the controversial religion Cruise is part of.
Kidman, on the other hand, decided to attend the Oscars this year with her current husband Keith Urban. The couple looked loved-up and happy, kissing and cuddling on the red carpet like newlyweds.
