German Biathlon Squad 2022/23: The women and men in the Germany team

The 2022/23 Biathlon World Cup season has already begun with its first stop in Kontiolahti. As expected, the German biathletes are eager to win again this year. Let’s take a closer look at the squad of German biathletes for the season.

The men’s German squad for the 2022/23 biathlon season has eight athletes. The women, on the other hand, have seven athletes on their roster. However, not all athletes will be used in the World Cup, and the trainers decide from World Cup to World Cup who makes it into the team.

The squad of German biathletes consists of a total of eight athletes, with coach Mark Kirchner leading the team. Kirchner, a former biathlete himself, retired in 1999 after posting 16 World Cup victories. Benedikt Doll, born on March 24, 1990, has already celebrated two bronze medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and the 2017 world sprint title in Hochfilzen. Lucas Fratzscher, Roman Rees, Phillip Horn, Justus Strelow, Philipp Nawrath, Johannes Kühn, and David Zobel make up the rest of the German men’s squad.

The squad of German biathletes for women has seven athletes, with trainer Kristian Mehringer leading the team. Denise Herrmann-Wick celebrated her World Cup debut in 2009 and has been part of the DSV squad since 2016. She became Olympic champion in Beijing in 2022 in singles, won Olympic bronze in 2022 with the team, and became world champion in pursuit in 2019 in Östersund. Janina Hettich-Walz, Vanessa Hinz, Franziska Preuss, Juliane Frühwirt, and Anna Weidel complete the rest of the German women’s squad.

Overall, the DSV athletes are looking to get closer to the top of the world again this season. With a talented squad of biathletes, they are more than capable of achieving their goal. Fans worldwide are eagerly watching to see how the German squad will perform throughout the 2022/23 Biathlon World Cup season.
