Rachida Dati calls on Anne Hidalgo to take responsibility and initiate a classification procedure

The Minister of Culture is calling on the mayor of Paris to initiate a ranking procedure for the maintenance of the monument. The minister, Rachida Dati, is urging the mayor to take action in order to ensure that the Eiffel Tower receives sufficient protection and maintenance. She emphasizes the need for scientific and technical oversight as well as the possibility of carrying out necessary renovations.

Dati insists on responsible management of the iconic monument. She is concerned about the recent strike by the employees of the Eiffel Tower, who are demanding better maintenance and less focus on short-term profitability. Dati also points out that the regional Court of Auditors highlighted management difficulties, visitor dissatisfaction, and unrealistic financial projections by the Paris city hall.

One of the key issues raised by Dati is the delayed repainting of the Eiffel Tower, which was supposed to be redone every seven years but is now 14 years behind schedule. The Chambre régionale des Comptes also reported issues during the last painting campaign, where workers and visitors were exposed to abnormally high levels of lead.

The city of Paris has defended its position, with the first deputy mayor stating that the monument is in excellent condition and is constantly undergoing renovations. However, Dati and the workers at the Eiffel Tower are urging for a more responsible and diligent approach to its maintenance and preservation.
