Product Workers Transformation: Transitioning from Scrum Master to Product Owner

The product workers: Change from Scrum Master to Product Owner

There are multiple paths to becoming a product owner, much like the many roads to Rome. Dominique Winter and Oliver Winter detail one such path through the role of a Scrum Master. Having experience as a Scrum Master brings many advantages, including a deep understanding of Scrum and iterative, incremental product development. Additionally, experience conducting workshops can lead to great skills and knowledge. However, one may face challenges in communicating a role change and shifting focus to value creation, which is the primary responsibility of a product owner. It is important to not interfere with the Scrum Master role when someone else takes it on and instead focus on product management skills and mindset.
