Paris: Cellist Jérôme Pernoo Sentenced to One Year in Prison for Sexual Assault

Relaxed of harassment charges, but found guilty of sexual assault. Cellist Jérôme Pernoo has been sentenced to one year of suspended prison by the Paris criminal court. The convicted individual will also be prohibited from engaging in any professional or volunteer activities involving minors for the next ten years.

The musician was accused by four former students. One for sexual assault in 2005, and the other three for harassment. All of them spoke out about the control exerted by Jérôme Pernoo. Despite these accusations, the court acquitted the cellist of the three harassment charges.

In its decision, the court chose to be less severe than the prosecutor’s demands. During the trial in May, the prosecution had requested two years of prison, with one year being mandatory. However, the former professor at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris has been added to the Sex Offender and Violent Offender Registry (Fijais).
