New Night Train Services between Paris and the South of France

As of Sunday, December 10th, new overnight train services will be in place, as announced by SNCF in late May. The Intercités night trains connecting the south of France and Paris will now stop at new stations. Some routes have also been altered. SNCF has made changes to the Ouigo trains and France Bleu has the details on these updates.

A new overnight train between Paris and Aurillac will be in service starting on December 10th. This will improve the railway service for Aurillac and Cantal. There will be a new round-trip service available daily during school holiday periods and a service on Friday and Sunday evenings outside of holiday periods according to SNCF.

The new train will make stops at Saint-Denis-Près-Martel (Lot), Bretenoux-Biars (Lot), Laroquebrou (Cantal), and Aurillac. This new overnight train is connected with the train to Rodez, Aveyron, which will depart from Paris at 7:40 PM and arrive in Aurillac at 8:20 AM.

The reopening of an overnight train on the SNCF Aurillac-Paris line, which was discontinued in the early 2000s, was promised by Prime Minister Jean Castex in October 2021 in front of the mayors of Cantal.

There will be new stops on the Mediterranean coast for the train Intercités de nuit called “Le Pyrénéen” between Paris-Austerlitz and Cerbère (Pyrénées-Orientales). The train will now stop in new cities on the Mediterranean coast: Nîmes Center, Montpellier Saint-Roch, Sète, Agde, and Béziers. The overnight train will resume its usual stops from Narbonne to Cerbère, with the same frequency as before.

The branch of Pyrénéen serving Lourdes and Hendaye is also changing: the Intercités night train will now stop at Dax, Bayonne, Orthez, Pau, Lourdes, and Tarbes, and it will do so daily.

Regarding southwestern service, the Secretary of State for Ecology announced this transition back in October. There will be a new line of overnight trains serving the region on the Atlantic axis, known as the “Palombe bleue”, with daily runs starting in 2024.

On December 10th, a new link between Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and Toulon (Var) will be launched by Ouigo Grande Vitesse train. SNCF announces one round trip per day. The train will stop at Marne-La-Vallée-Chessy, Disneyland Paris, Lyon Saint-Exupéry, and Aix-en-Provence.

After a nine-year hiatus, the Paris-Berlin overnight train will be back in service on December 11th. The new train will pass through Strasbourg and not only Sarrebruck. The train is initially planned to run three times a week before becoming a daily service from October 2024.
