Briefly informed: Apple, WhatsApp, Google, Amazon Prime

Apple Expands Communication Security

Apple is expanding its communication security by integrating a controversial function in its iMessage communication platform into more components of the group’s operating systems. The function is a nude image scanner that parents can activate; it uses AI algorithms to recognize incoming and sent nude photos in the message app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac and initially hides incoming photos if parents wish. The feature is intended to warn minors against receiving and sending problematic content.

WhatsApp Introduces Channels

WhatsApp has introduced Channels, a broadcast service that allows organizations and individuals to communicate one-way with a community. The channels are not end-to-end encrypted, and Meta justifies this by stating that they should reach the widest possible audience. Channels are designed to be an easy way for businesses, organizations, and individuals to reach large numbers of people. WhatsApp will have its own tab for this called “Current,” and selected organizations in Singapore and Colombia already have channels.

Google Urges Employees to Return From Home Office

Google is urging its employees to return to the office from their home office, and the group intends to include presence in the office in the performance appraisal. Reminders will be sent to employees who are less present in the office, and Google hopes that returning from home office after the pandemic will strengthen personal collaboration. The reason for pushing employees to return from home office is that the group intends to spend around 7 billion US dollars on new offices and data centers, which will now be filled once the pandemic has subsided.

Amazon Wants More Advertising for Prime Video

Amazon wants more advertising on its Prime Video streaming service and is considering several strategies. An advertising-based subscription variant or built-in advertisements in the existing subscription could be implemented. In both cases, only “short” commercial breaks are planned. Amazon could also offer an ad-free version at an additional cost to the previous costs. However, it is also possible that Amazon will not implement its advertising plans.
