The Shaded View On Fashion Film (Asvoff) Festival Returns to Paris This Thursday

The fifteenth edition of the Shaded View On Fashion Film Festival (Asvoff) will take place from November 9th to 12th, 2023, at the Dover Street Market Paris, located at 35-37 Rue des Francs Bourgeois in the 4th arrondissement. Founded by Diane Pernet, the festival celebrates the intersection of fashion, culture, and cinema. This year marks a significant milestone for Asvoff, as it has received official recognition from the French Ministry of Culture. This prestigious approval acknowledges the festival’s contribution to French cultural heritage and its commitment to fashion and aesthetics in film.

According to Diane Pernet, the recent endorsement by the French Ministry of Culture reflects Asvoff’s creative vision and its continuous pursuit of cultural enrichment and diversity. Asvoff aims to democratize cinema and has gained artistic and unique recognition both in France and internationally.

The fifteenth edition of Asvoff will focus on creative expression, the exploration of visual identities, and pluralism. With eight themes, including sustainable development and digital fashion, the festival will be divided into twenty programs over the course of four days. The festival will commence with the screening of the film “Invisible Beauty” by Bethann Hardison and Frederic Chen.

The second day will pay tribute to South African fashion designer Thebe Magugu with a series of short films: “Counter Intelligence,” “Discard Theory,” and “Genealogy.” Skateboarder Steve Olson will also be present to present his film “Pusher and Chat.”

On the third day, festivities will begin with a new program called “Climate Warriors” initiated by Liv Elbaz and Jose Levy. Children aged six to twelve will be invited to submit a 16-second film showcasing their vision of the future world. In the afternoon, a selection of eight films focusing on Chinese fashion, curated by Camille Mervin-Leroy and Gemma A. Williams, will be unveiled. At the end of the day, Konstantinos Menelaou will present “The Queer Archive,” a collection of fashion films that celebrate and explore the intersection of queer identities and fashion.

The festival will conclude with an award ceremony and closing ceremony, hosted by Swedish singer-songwriter Jay-Jay Johanson and American actress Gabrielle Lazure. The documentary film “Tilda Swinton Le Geste Et Le Genre” directed by Pierre-Paul Puljiz will be screened, followed by a concert by Berlin artist Julien Sitruk.

Asvoff, founded in 2008 by Diane Pernet, is a film festival dedicated to fashion, culture, and cinema, with a mission to support and promote emerging artists.
