Did Götze Reveal the Best German Goalkeeper?
As Manuel Neuer is out after breaking his leg, Marc-André ter Stegen is currently the German number 1 goalkeeper. On Thursday, Mario Götze and ter Stegen attended the DFB press conference, and they were in a good mood. During the conference, Götze was asked who it was harder to meet in training, ter Stegen or Neuer.
Götze surprisingly said, “Meanwhile, it’s harder for Marc.” After the comment, Götze quickly corrected himself, saying that “they are both world-class goalkeepers.”
Ter Stegen’s response was, “Wonderfully said.”
One thing is clear: Ter Stegen now wants to use Neuer’s injury to finally become number 1 in the national team in the long term. He says, “I have always clearly formulated my goal, I will continue to pursue it and do everything to ensure that it ends. In the end, what counts is the idea of performance.”
Ter Stegen is currently wearing number 1; he says, “Does the number mean anything? In the end it’s the performance that counts.”
