Apple Design Awards 2021 Finalists Announced
Apple has announced the finalists for this year’s Apple Design Awards, which are considered the “App Oscars.” The awards honor craftsmanship, creativity, and technical know-how. The winners will be revealed on Tuesday night, German time. Over 30 apps in six categories have been nominated this year. The categories include inclusivity, enjoyment and fun, interaction, social impact, visuals and graphics, and innovation.
German and Austrian Apps Make It to the Shortlist
Several apps from Germany and Austria have been nominated. Finding Hannah and Riveo from Germany are among the finalists. Finding Hannah was nominated in the inclusivity category. It is the first game by the Berlin development studio Fein Games and tells the story of a family and a drama of three women. Riveo, an AI-supported video effects app, was developed by Berlin-based company Forge and Form and is among the finalists in the Visuals and Graphics category. The language learning app Duolingo, which has an office in Berlin, is also among the finalists in two categories: pleasure and fun as well as social impact.
Austrian App Developer Among Finalists
Austrian app developer Klemens Strasser, who has been nominated for the Apple Design Award for the third time, is among the finalists in the Inclusivity category with his Ancient Board Game Collection. The nine different games are each designed by people from the home country of the game. Strasser tweeted that he was “more than thrilled” to be nominated again. In 2015, he won the award with the quiz Elementary Minute.
Known and Lesser-Known Apps Among Finalists
The finalists include insider tips and apps that are already known to a larger circle of people. The Flighty app, which is used for flight tracking, is among the finalists, and it also offers to display this as a live activity on the home screen. Stitch, a kind of painting by numbers game, can be found in Apple’s Arcade game subscription service.
The Apple Design Awards recognize the best and most innovative apps and games made for Apple devices. This year’s finalists have shown exceptional creativity, craftsmanship, and technical ability.
