French Ligue 1: The 2024/2025 Season will Begin on August 16, Five Days After the Paris Olympics

The 2024/2025 season of Ligue 1 will start on the weekend of August 16, five days after the end of the Paris Olympics, according to the schedule revealed by the LFP on Friday 15 December. The schedule has been approved by the executive committee of the French Football Federation, taking into account the state’s request not to organize competitions before and during the Olympic Games, the League said in a statement.

The winter break will take place after the 15th round of Ligue 1, scheduled for the weekend of December 13. However, the players will not put away their cleats as they will play in the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France the following weekend, usually held in January. The final of the Coupe de France will take place on May 25, 2025.

The championship will end on May 10, 2024

The resumption will take place on the weekend of January 3, 2025 with the 16th round, while the 34th and final round of Ligue 1 will be played on the weekend of May 17, 2025. The weekend of August 16, 2024 will also mark the start of Ligue 2, which will move to 18 clubs and therefore to 34 rounds, ending on the weekend of May 10, 2025. If no Ligue 1 rounds are scheduled during the week, two Ligue 2 rounds will be played on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 for the 6th round and Tuesday, September 24 for the 11th round.

Regarding the playoffs, the first matchup between the 4th and 5th of Ligue 2 will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. The winner will face the 3rd of Ligue 2 in a second playoff scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025.

The first leg of the promotional playoffs to Ligue 1 will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2025, while the second leg will be on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The two matches will oppose the 16th in Ligue 1 Uber Eats to the winner of the Ligue 2 playoffs.
