Free Entry in Football Stadiums: Fad or Revolution?

The Paris FC has the ambition of filling its stadium and it’s trying a new approach in order to do so. The club experimented with free tickets for its matches and it proved to be a success. With a population of 6.7 million living within 15km of the stadium, the free tickets are aimed at attracting new fans and those who have become disillusioned with violence or high ticket prices.

The reaction from the fans and the community as a whole has been largely positive. It has been a gamble in economic terms, with the club making a mere 2% of its budget from ticket sales last season. Despite this, early results have shown a potential in attracting a larger audience and generating revenue in other ways, such as through merchandise and concessions sales.

The primary motivation for this move is to attract new fans and build a sense of community around the club. The hope is that by offering free tickets, fans will come in droves and become attached to the club, adding to a sense of unity and pride. This approach has earned attention and could become a template for other teams. However, questions remain about its long-term impact and the potential implications for the club’s bottom line.
