1. FC Saarbrücken Dominates Bayreuth with a 5-0 Victory
After a frustrating few weeks, 1. FC Saarbrücken has found redemption with an impressive 5-0 victory against Bayreuth. The win puts the team just three points behind a direct promotion place.
As expected, Dave Gnaase and Bjarne Thoelke were replaced by Domink Ernst (injured) and suspended Luca Kerber. In the fourth minute, Bayreuth received a red card, which was a tough but fair decision. With the memory of their 0-6 loss in the first leg, Bayreuth hedged defensively, and 1. FC Saarbrücken struggled to capitalize on the opportunity.
Despite multiple chances, Cuni failed to convert after a Neudecker pass from seven yards out, while Rabihic’s header just went over the net. Uaferro and Thoelke also attempted to score, but their shots were blocked. Neudecker and Günther-Schmidt missed Petzold in the follow-up shot, and Gnaase’s 19-metre shot narrowly missed the goal.
Finally, the bell rang, and Günther-Schmidt put his chest down on Richard Neudecker, who laid it out eleven meters away to make it 1-0. It was a long-awaited goal, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Only thirty seconds into round 2, the guests’ goal rattled again. A beautiful move via Neudecker and Boeder saw Cuni get the ball at the six-yard box and pass it to Kasim Rabihic, who put it through Petzold’s braces to make it 2-0 in the 46th minute.
Krätschmer frittered away the ball, and the counterattack ran as Gaus cleared Nollenberger on the outside line, leading to a red card. However, 1. FC Saarbrücken was only briefly shocked. Substitute Grimaldi hit Rabihic with a hoe, and he scored to make it 3-0 in the 68th minute.
Then, Neudecker threw in a free kick from 16 meters away to make it 4-0 in the 71st minute. Adriano Grimaldi heads the 5-0 in the 82nd minute, and 1. FC Saarbrücken celebrated the well-deserved and dominant victory.
