Artem Harutyunyan: From Olympic Bronze to World Champion Dream
In 2016, Artem Harutyunyan (32) won the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics for boxing. After that, he had a big dream to box in the United States and become a world champion. Now, the first part of his dream is coming true as he gets ready to fight Frank “The Ghost” Martin (28) in America.
Harutyunyan is currently undefeated with 12 wins and seven KOs under his belt, while Martin has 17 wins and 12 KOs. The Armenian-German boxer is ranked ninth in the prestigious WBC lightweight (61.2 kilos) and is looking to advance his rankings with a victory over Martin.
“I’m pretty excited and excited,” says Harutyunyan before the fight of his life. “There will be a lot coming my way.”
Harutyunyan’s fight is part of the pre-program of the mega fight between Gervonta Davis (28) and Ryan Garcia (24) at the T-Mobile Arena in front of 20,000 fans. This will be Harutyunyan’s first time fighting in the United States.
“That’s something crass. I want to present myself and show who I am,” says Harutyunyan. “I’m preparing like I always do, just started sparring earlier. The only problem is that I haven’t boxed for almost a year.”
Harutyunyan’s last fight was in June 2022 when he defeated Humberto Galindo (23) in Hamburg. After that, there were no suitable opponents until now due to a stubborn cold that delayed the fight in February.
“It took a lot of time. Hopefully, this will now be my ticket to the big fights,” Harutyunyan says with determination.
The winner of this match between Harutyunyan and Martin moves up to third place, bringing them within striking distance of a world championship fight. Harutyunyan hopes to achieve his dream of becoming a world champion and making a name for himself in the boxing world.
