Apple presents figures on fraud prevention in 2022

Apple has released a statement announcing the extensive measures it employs to prevent fraud and other violations on its App Store platform. The company presents data showing that fraudulent activities and bad actors are a persistent threat to the online marketplace, and that it takes significant efforts to combat them.

The company’s figures for 2022 indicate that while malicious activity is an ongoing concern for Apple, its detection processes have improved. The number of blocked developer accounts has almost halved from the previous year, and 105 million registrations were rejected for the Apple Developer Program. Apple has also blocked 282 million fraudulent customer accounts, and prevented 198 million new accounts that were suspected of fraudulent intentions.

More than every sixth submission to the app review was rejected, and Apple checked over 6.1 million apps for malware and compliance with its guidelines. The company also made phone calls to developers in 20,000 cases, offering tips and suggestions on how to resolve rejected apps.

Apple has also prevented fraudulent transactions totaling $2.09 billion, and removed over 147 million unauthorized ratings and reviews from the App Store. With ever-evolving threats, Apple continues to adjust its policies and rules to increase security on its platform.
