Weekly Report: Bacteriophages and Photovoltaics on Commercial Roofs

Weekly: bacteriophages, photovoltaics on commercial roofs

This week’s edition of “Weekly” focuses on bacteriophages – tiny viruses that have the unique ability to infect bacteria. With the increasing risk of antibiotic resistance, these viruses could be the key to combatting multidrug-resistant germs. In Germany, a clinical study is underway at the Berlin Charité to help fight a resistant pathogen of pneumonia. The European Union is also considering regulations around the use of phage therapies and whether they can be used without clinical studies.

In addition to bacteriophages, “Weekly” highlights Michio Kaku’s book, “Future Prospects,” which makes predictions about the early days of the internet, as well as the Amazon Prime spy series, “Citadel,” one of the most expensive series productions to date.

“Weekly” is one of three podcast formats offered by the science and technology magazine MIT Technology Review. The “Deep Dive” format delves deeper into a topic from the magazine once a month, while the monthly “Unscripted” format features interviews with personalities from science, technology, and society. The “Weekly” news format provides a summary of the latest news. An overview of all three formats is available on the website.
