ALPHV, a ransomware gang also known as BlackCat, is threatening to publish internal data from a raid on the social news website Reddit. The cybercriminals claim to have accessed the systems in early February 2023 and copied 80 gigabytes of data. Despite offering a ransom of $4.5 million in April and June, Reddit did not respond or make any payment.

The oversupply of NAND flash memory components is causing SSD prices to drop. M.2 models with a capacity of 2 TB can now be purchased for less than 80 euros. The cheapest options currently available are Kingston’s NV2 and Mushkins Element, both priced at 75 euros. These SSDs are reported to achieve read rates of over 3 GB/s and handle random access with several hundred thousand IOPS.

Former Meta technology head, Mike Schroepfer, has launched a new organization focused on accelerating research into improving ocean alkalinity for climate protection. The “Carbon to Sea Initiative,” backed by Schroepfer’s organization Additional Ventures and other foundations, will receive an endowment of $50 million over five years. The initiative aims to utilize the Earth’s oceans for more effective carbon dioxide absorption and storage.

According to the head of Vtech, AI technology like ChatGPT could be integrated into toys within the next five years, enabling personalized bedtime stories for children. However, the technology is not yet mature enough, and the required chips are currently too expensive. While the implementation of this technology may still take some time, it is expected to eventually become a reality. Nonetheless, concerns about privacy and security are acknowledged.
