The Panthéon Breaks Record in Paris during 2023

A Golden Year for the Panthéon. In 2023, more and more visitors have climbed the steps of the mausoleum located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. Indeed, the Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN) has indicated a 12.5% increase in visits, compared to the same period in 2022. A figure marked by the significant presence of a young audience.

More than a third of young visitors
The crossing of this symbolic threshold marks the evolutions desired by the Centre des monuments nationaux concerning the Panthéon. In the heart of the Latin Quarter, many French visitors, but also from around the world, have made the trip to visit the site. Among them, young people under the age of 26 represent 37% of visitors. A truly commendable score for a cultural and historical site.

This increase in attendance is part of the overall good results concerning all the sites of the Centre des monuments nationaux, which welcomed more than 11 million visitors by December 11, 2023, an increase of +15% compared to 2022. In a press release, the CMN states that “visitors are coming more and more to understand the republican commitment of the personalities honored there, from Voltaire to Joséphine Baker, passing through Victor Hugo, Emile Zola or Marie Curie”. On February 21, Missak and Mélinée Manouchian will receive a solemn tribute during a ceremony presided over by Emmanuel Macron.

Until February 11, 2024, two exhibitions are presented around the memory of the fights against slavery: Dare Freedom – Figures of the fights against slavery, in partnership with the Foundation for the Memory of Slavery, as well as We could be heroes, with a carte blanche to the artist Raphaël Barontini. Next year, an exhibition on the history of the Paralympics will enrich the cultural program of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, between June 11 and September 29, 2024.
