Absolute silence: Still no reopening in sight for the Luxembourg tennis courts in Paris

The moss has begun to cover the quick of the historic tennis courts in the Luxembourg garden, in Paris (VIe). The nets have disappeared. In the alleys of the “most beautiful garden in Europe,” the walkers don’t even turn their heads towards the courts anymore. “It’s sad, it seems abandoned,” laments Noémi, a regular visitor to the park. Inaugurated in 1939, the six courts have not seen a match since March 1st. And for now, there seems to be no indication of a reopening soon.

“It even circulated for a while the rumor that the courts could be removed, or replaced by a multi-sports field,” notes a source close to the matter. “This would be extraordinary for courts that are known in Paris and even throughout France.” The Senate, which manages the tennis courts, has not issued a new call for tenders since the cancellation of the previous procedure by the court on June 8th. It also did not appeal this decision of the administrative court.
