Paris: Region Allocates 30,000 Euros for Businesses Affected by Rue Saint-Jacques Explosion

A small financial boost. Three months to the day after the tragedy that occurred on rue Saint-Jacques in the 5th arrondissement of Paris on June 21, 2023, several businesses affected by the explosion at number 277 of the street will benefit from economic support from the Île-de-France region. This support was initially voted on July 5. In total, nearly 30,000 euros in aid will be provided.

A permanent commission was therefore held on September 21, 2023, during which “17 beneficiary businesses were identified,” the community said. “In order to cover a portion of the loss of income for businesses that had to remain closed for long weeks due to the damage and/or the investigation, the Île-de-France region will assume a portion of their rent for the months affected by the closure on a case-by-case basis.”

Most affected small businesses

In detail, 26,800 euros will be allocated for amounts ranging from 629 euros to 6,275 euros for the Express Saint-Jacques. The region also notes that “the smallest of these businesses, who do not own their premises, are the most severely affected. Their ability to restart their operations is hindered and, in some cases, even their survival is threatened.”

In this context, the Île-de-France community “will therefore assist 17 businesses to help them cope with the decrease in their clientele and cover 75% of their rent.” It is worth noting that “half of these businesses are bars and restaurants.”
