Windows 11 Upgrade Brings Live German Subtitles and Taskbar Seconds

Windows 11 update: German live subtitles and seconds in the taskbar

Microsoft is set to release its latest function update for Windows 11 Version 22H2, which includes several new features. One of the most significant is the addition of German live subtitles, which Windows 11 can now display alongside any audio source. Previously, live transcription was only available in English, but the new update adds support for other languages, including Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Danish, and Korean.

The new Windows 11 update also includes an option to display seconds in the taskbar, which was previously only available through registry tweaks in Windows 10. The feature, which can be activated in the taskbar settings, was suppressed in Windows 11 to prevent unnecessary CPU load and battery drain on devices. However, Microsoft now provides a warning in the taskbar menu that the seconds display may consume more power.

In addition to German live subtitles and seconds in the taskbar, the latest Windows 11 update includes other improvements, such as a VPN icon in the system tray, simplified copy and paste of 2-factor codes, and Windows Explorer keyboard shortcuts. There is also multi-app support in kiosk mode, Live Kernel Memory Dumps (LKD) in the Task Manager, and Content Adaptive Brightness Control for automatic screen brightness adjustment.

While the May patch day enabled registry fiddling to activate seconds display, the switch will only be available in the Moments3 update. The required key can be added to the registry by creating an entry as DWORD32 with the name ShowSecondsInSystemClock and a value of 1.

Microsoft users can now limit the number of tabs displayed when pressing Alt-Tab, which can be found under the “Settings/Multitasking” section. Microsoft outlines all the changes in detail in its Windows blog. With the new update, Microsoft aims to enhance the user experience for Windows 11 devices.
