Twitter’s Verification Badges Lose Value

Twitter's blue ticks are now finally worthless

Elon Musk Deletes Blue Ticks on Twitter

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has deleted the last blue ticks on his Twitter account. In the past, blue ticks indicated that the account in question is verified and operated by a person or entity with a high level of awareness. However, the meaning of blue ticks has now changed.

Now, blue ticks indicate that the account owner has subscribed to “Twitter Blue” for $8 (or a similar amount of money) per month. To get a tick, the account must be at least 30 days old and have a verified phone number on file. However, Twitter no longer checks whether the account operator is actually who he or she claims to be.

Gold ticks are available for businesses and gray ticks for government accounts. These ticks cost significantly more, at a minimum of $1,000 per month per organization plus $50 per month for each Twitter account associated with that organization.

Mastodon Gains Popularity

As Twitter boss Musk has increased fees for using Twitter’s program interfaces, more and more organizations are deciding to no longer provide Twitter with any further content. Some are switching to the Fediverse instead. Mastodon, in particular, is becoming increasingly popular.
