Several activists from the animal rights organization Peta entered the runway of the former Spice Girl’s fashion show on Friday, March 1, during Paris Fashion Week, holding signs.

It is only her second year as a designer presented at Paris Fashion Week, and already Victoria Beckham is facing criticism. On Friday, March 1, the former Spice Girl presented her new collection – while on crutches – within the walls of the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild in Paris, in front of a crowd of stars: her almost complete family including David Beckham, Harper, Cruz, and Brooklyn, as well as Anna Wintour and Kim Kardashian. While her satin dresses, blazer jackets, and leather coats were applauded, some disruptors hidden among the audience expressed their discontent with her stylistic direction. This time, it was not a Marie infiltrates, but several activists from the animal rights organization Peta (People for the ethical treatment of animals). They disrupted the show by entering the runway with signs and shirts featuring vegan slogans.

“Turn your back on animal skins,” read the signs.

“Animals are not fabrics”

“Long live vegan leather,” “Turn your back on animal skins,” and “Animals are not fabrics” were some of the slogans seen before they were escorted out by security agents. This action was clearly claimed by Peta, who posted a message on social media shortly after: “No piece of clothing is worth the slaughter and skinning of a sensitive animal. Victoria Beckham, animals are not textiles.” The organization called on the designer to stop using calf leather in her pieces and instead opt for “ethical, environmentally friendly, and high-end innovations now available.” The designer has not yet responded to this request.
