Video – A stamp featuring the framework of Notre-Dame de Paris printed in Dordogne

The Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was nearly destroyed by a spectacular fire on April 15, 2019, and the images of the blaze spread around the world. The country mobilized, and in response to the overwhelming emotion, the La Poste Group decided to launch one stamp per year to accompany the immense reconstruction project.

After stamps featuring the gargoyle, the bourdon, and the stained glass windows, this year’s stamp will focus on the Cathedral’s roof structure, the fourth and final stamp in the “Treasures of Notre-Dame” series, symbolizing French craftsmanship and rebirth.

The stamp will showcase the beauty and complexity of the nearly identical wooden structure that was reconstructed on the cathedral using 12th and 13th-century techniques.

Since Tuesday, February 20, and until Thursday, Philaposte’s machines have been working to produce 450,000 stamps representing the cathedral’s roof structure. It will be available for purchase starting on April 15, the fifth anniversary of the devastating fire.
