Nextorage NE5N: Gen 5 SSD with huge heat sink and 10 GB/s

Nextorage, the Japanese company formerly a Sony subsidiary, has unveiled its latest SSD, the NE5N, with a whopping 10 GB/s read and write speed. The drive is equipped with a Phison PS5026-E26 controller, while the 232-layer TLC flash comes from Micron, which is housed alongside a 4GB DRAM cache. The manufacturer ships the SSD with an enormous two-piece heatsink connected through a heat pipe; however, there will also be a version without a heatsink. The 2 TB model has an endurance of 1400 TB, while the 1 TB model offers 700 TB and comes at a cost of $250 and $500, respectively.

The NE5N offers a blazing 10,000 MB/s read and write speed, with direct access memory speeds of 1.42 million IOPS when reading and almost 1.5 IOPS when writing. In addition, the NE5N achieved 3928 points when PCMark10 benchmarked as a system drive, with the upcoming review by c’t expected and direct comparison with the Corsair MP700 and Gigabyte Aorus Gen5 10000 as well.

The Gigabyte Aorus Gen5 10000 SSD and the Corsair MP700 are marketed as competitors to the NE5N. However, the Corsair MP700 has been put on hold due to technical issues. The Crucial SSD T700 is another drive with PCIe 5.0, which is quite a lot faster than the Nextorage NE5N with an impressive 12 GB/s when reading. Furthermore, pricing for the NE5N in Europe is currently unknown, but in the US, the 1 TB version will cost $250, while the 2 TB drive is priced at twice the cost, at $500.
