Union Urges Faster Action to Improve Mobile Phone Reception on Trains

Better mobile phone reception on trains: Union calls for more speed

The Union is calling on the federal government to improve mobile phone reception on trains. CDU MP Ronja Kemmer criticized Transport Minister Volker Wissing for not implementing any measures to improve mobile phone coverage on trains despite major announcements. A timetable for converting train windows that are impervious to mobile communications and upgrading old WiFi amplifiers for the fast 5G mobile communications standard is urgently needed. The Union also wants to legally oblige Deutsche Bahn to provide infrastructure for mobile communications technology.

CDU MP Thomas Jarzombek echoed Kemmer’s sentiments, stating that gigabit on the train is necessary for attractive long-distance transport. The Union has put forward a motion to discuss the issue in the Bundestag, which calls for a timetable for the long-term conversion and equipment of trains with mobile phone-permeable panes and a gigabit network in all trains.
