A 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by an Iraqi man on the Champs Élysées avenue in the 8th arrondissement of Paris on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:40 pm when the intoxicated individual grabbed the girl and forced himself on her against a wall. Security agents from the Cartier store heard the victim scream and intervened by restraining the assailant until the police arrived.
“He pounced on the young girl and refused to let go, it took the agents’ intervention to stop the assault,” a police source said. The man had nothing on him except candy to lure children. The victim’s mother was contacted and she accompanied her daughter to the police station to file a complaint. The Iraqi suspect, Mayeh Al H., born in 1987, was arrested and placed in custody. His immigration status is currently being verified.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern within the community as people express their support for the young victim and call for justice to be served.
