The Parisian Joys of October

The leaves turn red, trench coats are out, and there are countless reasons to enjoy autumn in Paris. We’ve even counted ten!

Rekindling your inner child

For the holidays, let’s go to the movies! Children aged 3 to 12 can play film critics with “Mon premier festival,” the twelfth cinephile edition that organizes screenings, activities, and meetings in twelve Art-house cinemas in Paris, as well as at the Forum des Images and the Gaité Lyrique. On the program: Africa United, Frankenweenie, Le Carnaval de la petite taupe, Les Indestructibles, Monstres et Cie, Olga, Phantom Boy, Petites danseuses, Space Jam, Suzume, Tempête, Graine de champion…

Getting passionate about Parisian architecture

The eighth edition of the National Architecture Days will take place from October 13th to 15th. The goal? To unveil the secrets of contemporary Parisian architecture. A wide program of meetings, debates, visits to architects’ offices, construction sites, and open doors is planned. For example, you can participate in an exciting visit about the secrets of the Arc de Triomphe.

Taking a leap into the past

From October 20th until February, the Carnavalet Museum takes us back to the dawn of the Age of Enlightenment. The exhibition will focus on a lesser-known period of history: when Louis XIV brought back life to the political, economic, and cultural scene of Paris. It was during this time that the capital truly transformed and became the epicenter of innovation, with stars like Voltaire, Marivaux, Montesquieu, and Watteau.

Immersing oneself in contemporary art

Since 2018, the City of Paris and the Crédit Municipal have been supporting contemporary art through the 1% art market prize. The idea is to encourage visual artistic creation. The works of the winners will be exhibited in the Saint-Jean room, at the heart of the City Hall, from October 14th to November 12th, 2023. Admission will be free.

Applauding the “MaMa Festival”

Normally, this super cool music festival in northern Paris is reserved for professionals, but out of the 180 scheduled concerts, 130 will be open to the public. So for three days, from October 11th to 13th, it will be the perfect opportunity to discover the talents of tomorrow at MaMa. We really want to go listen to Fernie, a female version of Frank Ocean, Train Fantôme, or Simony if you’re into rap, and finish with Alice et moi for fans of French electro-pop!

Discovering new personalities

Let’s head to the CENTQUATRE-PARIS to discover the Némo Biennial. Until January 7th, 2024, we’ll explore our multiple personalities through exhibitions, performances, and a series dedicated to American director Christopher Nolan. Copies, doubles, mutants, and other avatars will take center stage!

Marveling at Zinedine Zidane

From October 5th, 2023, to January 14th, 2024, the Philharmonie will celebrate our national hero Zizou. In “Zidane, un portrait du XXIe siècle,” Philippe Parreno and Douglas Gordon offer us a unique experience. In 2005, when the footballer played for Real Madrid, he faced off against the Villareal CF team. This match was filmed with seventeen cameras. The result: a sonic and visual experience that reveals Zidane’s talent as he moves like a dancer around the ball and his teammates. The star’s breath, his foot kicking the ball… everything should transport us into a fascinating football dimension.

Admiring a comic book genius

Starting from October 12th and for seven months, the Museum of Jewish Art and History will organize the first retrospective dedicated to Joann Sfar. His creativity has long been expressed through exhibited comics and drawings, as well as in notebooks, photos, and films. The journey explores his favorite themes such as childhood, friendship, sexuality, and death, giving voice to a cultural Judaism where it is least expected.

Contemplating Azzedine Alaïa’s secret collection

Azzedine Alaïa was a master of design, but he was also a great collector, passionate about the history of fashion. With 140 pieces, this exhibition at the Palais Galliera retraces the history of his invaluable collection. Fashion lovers can admire rare pieces from Lanvin, Balenciaga, Chanel, McQueen, and Yamamoto, among others, until January!

Meeting new contemporary artists

The Paris + International Fair by Art Basel (formerly FIAC) is returning for its second year at the Grand Palais éphémère (7th) from October 19th to 22nd, 2023. It is an essential event in October, attracting gallery owners, collectors, curators, museum directors, and enthusiasts of the international contemporary art world. This is the event not to be missed to stay up-to-date: which renowned artwork to see, which young talents to follow, and which artistic trend will mark 2024? We’ll know everything!
