The objective of a ‘siege’ in Paris escalates tensions

Karine Le Marchand joins the movement
“Promise made, promise kept.” Karine Le Marchand, host of “L’Amour est dans le pré,” has hit the road to Paris to join the movement of angry farmers, who have announced a “siege” of the capital starting on Monday, January 28. Eight blockades are planned around Paris.
“Once you get to Paris, farmers? Well, then I’m coming too. And if you’ll have me, I’d be delighted to get on your tractors,” Karine Le Marchand said in an Instagram story published on Sunday, January 28.

Police prefecture recommends “using public transportation”
Farmers’ unions have called for a “siege” of the capital at 2 p.m. via eight blockades on highways leading to Paris. Traffic is expected to be difficult on Île-de-France’s highways, as well as on secondary roads that may become saturated. As a result, the Paris police prefecture “recommends that Parisians use public transportation for their travels.”

15,000 law enforcement personnel mobilized today
The government announced that 15,000 members of the security forces would be mobilized today to prevent tractors from entering “Paris and major cities” as angry farmers plan a “siege” of the capital starting at 2 p.m.
After an interministerial crisis meeting, Gérald Darmanin reiterated that his ministry’s position was one of “understanding of the agricultural sector.” He thus does not want “intervention at the blockades” but wants them to be “secured” by law enforcement.

Gabriel Attal acknowledges not having “addressed” all of the industry’s “unease”
Gabriel Attal admitted yesterday to not having “addressed” “all (…) the unease and malaise of our farmers,” but says he is “determined” to “move quickly,” during a speech at the New Year’s wishes of Deputy Fabienne Colboc.
“I know that, through these initial measures (announced on Friday, editor’s note), we have not yet fully addressed all of the unease and malaise of our farmers today,” declared the Prime Minister during this New Year’s wishes ceremony in La Riche, Indre-et-Loire, as farmers announced a “siege” of Paris today.
