The reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris is progressing at an impressive pace. On Friday, December 8th, Emmanuel Macron visited the impressive construction site and announced the creation of a museum and a competition for the stained glass windows.
Behind the towers of Notre Dame is the construction site of the century. Witness to the tragedy from which the monument escaped. Emmanuel Macron had promised to rebuild it identically in five years. The bet seems to be won. On the morning of Friday, December 8th, the President of the Republic congratulated the teams who have been working for four years and etched for eternity the name of General Georgelin, the chief of the site who passed away last summer.
A symbolic visit
Four and a half years after the fire. On 15 April 2019, flames ravaged Notre-Dame de Paris, the spire collapsed before the terrified eyes of passersby. The emotion was worldwide and donations reached 845 million euros. Two full years of securing the area followed. The edifice was cleared of rubble, protected by tarps, saved. It’s time to start the restoration of the artworks all over France. Artisans mobilized. For example, in Troyes (Aube), the stained glass windows find their splendor. In August 2023, the frame that will support the new spire is delivered. Last December 2nd, the needle of the arrow flew over Paris and took its place above the rooftops. In a year, Notre-Dame will be returned to worship, and its bells will ring again.
