Storm Ciaran: Paris and Île-de-France on yellow alert for strong winds this Thursday

France is preparing for the arrival of storm Ciaran, expected to hit a large part of the northwest of the country on Wednesday night. Météo France has placed 3 departments in the Hexagon on red alert for strong winds, 17 on orange alert, and 63 on yellow alert, including Paris and the rest of the Île-de-France region.

Attention should be paid to possible violent gusts of wind in the Paris region in the next few hours. On November 2, 2023, as storm Ciaran is set to unleash its fury on a large part of the northwest of the country, Météo France has placed a total of 83 departments on alert for strong winds that could locally cause damage.

In detail, 3 departments in the Hexagon are on red alert for strong winds, with Météo France stating that “dangerous phenomena of exceptional intensity” are expected. These departments are Côtes-d’Armor, Finistère, and Manche. 17 other departments are on orange alert, also for strong winds, including Morbihan, Oise, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée, and Pas-de-Calais.

Additionally, 63 departments are on yellow alert, again for strong winds. This includes the Île-de-France region. Paris and all other departments in Île-de-France (Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, and Val-d’Oise) are on yellow alert for strong winds on Thursday.

According to Météo France, these strong gusts of wind could reach 90 km/h on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, especially in Yvelines. On Thursday morning, gusts of the same intensity are expected to spread across a large part of the Île-de-France region, with peaks reaching 100 km/h in the northwest of Yvelines.

These strong gusts are expected in the Paris region from 2 am on Thursday and could continue throughout the day until 7 pm. Of course, this yellow alert is subject to change in the coming hours, so stay tuned. Météo France also states that “a possible upgrade to orange alert for wind in Île-de-France is not to be excluded for the second part of the night from Wednesday to Thursday and Thursday morning, in connection with the passage of storm Ciaran.”

During these periods of bad weather, Météo France recommends being cautious of strong winds, which can be dangerous. Here are some precautionary recommendations to follow:

– Protect your home and belongings exposed to the wind,
– Stay informed by authorities,
– Limit your movements,
– Beware of falling trees and objects,
– Do not go on rooftops.

In preparation for storm Ciaran, several municipalities announce the closure of their parks, gardens, and other public places from Wednesday, November 1 to Friday, November 3, 2023.

As autumn is now well established in France, the weather is a testament to that. Météo France warns of the arrival of a new depression with storm Ciaran, which could be violent and affect the northwest of France on the night of November 1 to 2. So, what can we expect in Paris and Île-de-France? We will tell you more.

In anticipation of storm Ciaran, the cities of Versailles, Carrières-sous-Poissy, and Saint-Cyr l’Ecole announce the closure of their parks and municipal gardens. This decision comes in response to the powerful gusts of wind expected between Wednesday and Thursday, November 2.

The storm Ciaran looms on the horizon, and Essonne will not be spared. In anticipation of November 1st and 2nd, 2023, several cities in the department have decided to close their green spaces, alerting residents to the safety measures to be taken in the face of this weather disturbance.

Storm Ciaran threatens Île-de-France. As a precaution, the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud will close its doors on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Any travel in the region should be approached with caution.
