Pulp bassist Steve Mackey dies at 56

Pulp bassist Steve Mackey has passed away at the age of 56, as confirmed by his family. Mackey’s wife, Katie, announced on social media that Mackey had been hospitalized for the past three months, but did not provide details about his illness. Mackey joined the British band in 1989 and is best known for hits such as “Common People,” “Disco 2000,” and “Lipgloss.”

In an emotional statement, Katie expressed her shock and devastation over the loss of her husband. She described him as an extraordinarily talented musician, producer, photographer, and filmmaker who was adored by everyone he worked with.

After taking a break from the band in 2002, Mackey went on to co-write and produce songs for numerous artists, including MIA, Florence + The Machine, and Arcade Fire. He also had a cameo in the 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as a member of the Weird Sisters rock band alongside Jarvis Cocker and Radiohead musicians Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway.
