Steffen Hallaschka and Olivia Jones Have Their Coffins: A Beginner’s Guide to Dying

"Dying for Beginners": Steffen Hallaschka and Olivia Jones already have their coffins

Olivia Jones and Steffen Hallaschka have got their coffins ready for their “last journey”. The two Germans celebrities have revealed that they have picked out their final resting place as part of a new documentary series named “Dying for Beginners”. In the series, the two personalities visit people who have something to do with death, including undertakers, forensic pathologists, terminally ill or dying attendants. The documentary aims to reduce fears of contact with the topics of death and dying.

Jones, the drag queen born in Lower Saxony, painted a wooden coffin for herself, while Hallaschka built his own coffin. At first, Hallaschka saw the idea of the coffins as just an image for the series; however, he eventually decided that it was a great idea, and that he could use his coffin as a wine rack in his room at home.

The series, which is intended to be both serious and entertaining, has been available on the streaming portal RTL+ since Wednesday. Hallaschka said that building a coffin at the age of 50 is a “mature thing”, and Jones believes that it is not morbid at all. Jones also revealed that she “fit in” her coffin, so she was happy with her decision.

At a time when death is on everyone’s minds due to the ongoing pandemic, this documentary series is an excellent way to reduce fears and start conversations about death and dying.
