Starfleet Academy: The Next Generation

"Starfleet Academy": New "Star Trek" series revolves around teenagers

Paramount is producing “Starfleet Academy,” a new “Star Trek” series for its streaming service, Paramount+. The show will follow a group of young cadets who come together to achieve their dreams of becoming Starfleet officers. With the guidance of their instructors, the cadets will discover what it takes to become a part of Starfleet. The show will explore themes of friendship, rivalry, and first love affairs. Producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau stated the main characters will be around 16 years old.

Further details about the series are not available yet. It is unclear when the series will be broadcast and how many seasons will be produced. The cast is also unknown at this time.

“Starfleet Academy” is just one of several “Star Trek” series that serve as a booster for the relatively young streaming service Paramount+. The third season of “Strange New Worlds” has been commissioned by the company, while “Star Trek Discovery” will end with the fifth season, set to air on Paramount+ in 2024. “Star Trek: Picard” is currently on its third season and is broadcasting on Amazon Prime and Paramount+.

The three current “Star Trek” series are received differently by fans, according to review aggregator Metacritic. “Strange New Worlds” has received 6.7 points out of 10, higher than “Picard” with 3.6 and “Discovery” with 3.2.

“Starfleet Academy” aims to bring more excitement to the “Star Trek” universe, with a focus on a younger generation of cadets learning the ropes of Starfleet. Fans will have to wait for more details to be released about the new series, but it promises to build on the success of previous “Star Trek” shows.
