Spotify’s Price Hike Hits Austria

Spotify is getting more expensive in Austria

Spotify is raising its subscription prices in Austria, with the standard subscription now costing 11 euros per month, up from 10 euros. The price for student subscriptions is also increasing to 6 euros per month, compared to the previous 5 euros. Customers in Austria will be notified of the new prices through email, and the price increase will initially apply to new customers. Existing customers have until September 30 to object to the change, and if they do, their subscription will be cancelled. There is no indication of an impending price increase in Germany.

Last year, Spotify had already raised prices for duo and family subscriptions in Austria, making all subscription options in the country more expensive than in Germany. In addition to the price increases, Spotify is planning to introduce a new subscription level called “Supremium” in markets outside the USA. This new model will offer lossless music streaming and is expected to launch later this year. However, there are no details on the pricing for the Lossless subscription yet, and Spotify has not commented on the report.

It is worth noting that both Amazon and Apple have already integrated lossless streaming into their music streaming services without any additional charge, prompting Spotify to reconsider its plans for hi-fi streaming in CD quality, which was initially announced for 2021 but later cancelled. In Germany, Spotify is currently priced at 10 euros per month, which is cheaper than its competitors. Alternatively, users can access Spotify for free with occasional commercial breaks.
