School Librarian Arrested for Sexual Assault on a Minor

A 58-year-old librarian working at a nursery school in Paris has been arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting a 3 and a half year old child between September 4 and 29, 2023, according to police and judicial sources. The suspect denies the accusations.

A meeting regarding the incident is scheduled for tomorrow, October 10, between the school director, the national education inspector, the city hall, a national education psychologist, and representatives from the school affairs department (DASCO), as informed by the Paris city hall.

The man was arrested on Wednesday, October 4, at the nursery school where he works in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, “outside the presence of children,” according to the police and city hall sources. The individual has been charged with sexual assault and placed under judicial control.

At the suspect’s residence, investigators found “texts and drawings depicting sexual acts, sometimes involving minors,” as stated by a police source.

Following the complaint filed against the agent, the Paris city hall has launched a criminal investigation and immediately decided to remove the agent from his position. The agent was summoned to the school affairs and early childhood district office to be notified of his suspension. The city hall also made a report to the Departmental Service for Youth, Engagement, and Sports (SDJES).

The parents’ representatives were informed by the Paris city hall about the suspicion of sexual misconduct towards a child. They were received by representatives from the school affairs department and elected officials last Friday. The city hall has recommended that parents file a complaint if their children reveal any new incidents.

The Paris city hall has established psychological support for the families through the Mobile Psychological Intervention Unit of the City of Paris to assist parents who may seek it. The school’s social service office (DSOL) has also been alerted to monitor the situation. The city hall plans to launch an administrative investigation.
