Parisculteurs: Discover the Twelve Projects

Since its launch in 2016, the Parisculteurs project has been promoting urban agriculture in Paris. Today, over 120 sites have been installed or are currently being installed. Each year, rooftops, open spaces, or basements owned by the City or its partners and located in Paris and the surrounding metropolitan area are made available to organizations carrying out agricultural activities. These organizations are known as “Parisculteurs.”

These agricultural sites produce over 140 tons of fruits, vegetables, and herbs annually, including 102 tons of mushrooms. They also produce over 6,000 liters of beer, 13,000 plants, 19,000 flowers, and 1,500 tea bags. Additionally, around a hundred jobs are created across the various sites.

Among the new additions in this 5th edition, previously underrepresented crops are now making an appearance. Tea, for example, will be produced in the Bois de Boulogne, and willow cultivation (used in basketry and landscaping) will also be developed.

This season also sees the arrival of eight new organizations, indicating the continued development of local agriculture.

Furthermore, these projects are extending beyond the city limits of Paris. Thanks to partnerships with neighboring areas such as Seine-Saint-Denis, the towns of Sevran, Vitry-sur-Seine, Colombes, Pierrefitte, and Champigny-sur-Marne, several productive vegetable gardens will gradually be established in the coming months, such as in Sevran and Vitry-sur-Seine.

The winners of the 5th edition were announced on October 10, 2023, at the Academy of Climate (in central Paris) by Audrey Pulvar, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of sustainable food, agriculture, and short circuits. The call for projects for the 5th edition had been launched in March.

Two-thirds of the organizations offer regular activities for the general public, schools, or businesses. Volunteering and public participation are strongly encouraged by the organizations behind these projects, as they bring many benefits to both the projects themselves and those involved.
