Paris Olympics: Bonuses for civil servants ranging from 500 to 1,500 euros, the administration specifies the eligibility criteria

The administration has just outlined to ministries the conditions for granting their employees exceptional bonuses related to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, in a provisional document seen by AFP on Monday.

Addressed to the general secretaries of the ministries, the document is still in the draft stage and will be discussed on Tuesday during a meeting between the General Directorate of Administration and Public Service (DGAFP) and public service unions.

It specifies that the different bonuses of 500, 1,000, and 1,500 euros “will apply to employees directly involved in the preparation and conduct of the Games and those exposed to a significant increase in activity directly generated by organizational changes related to the Games.”

An allowance of 500 euros is provided for employees in services experiencing a “temporary increase in their activity” and a “temporary” constraint on taking leave during the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11) or Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8). Those eligible for the 1,000 euro bonus are officials who also experience a temporary increase in their service’s activity and are additionally subject to a “sustained” constraint on taking leave.

The 1,500 euros will be paid to employees whose mobilization is “particularly high, over a long period” and who cause “a significant limitation on the number of days of leave from mid-June to mid-September 2024.” Finally, “as an exceptional and derogatory measure,” the maximum amount of the bonus “may be increased for personnel performing public security missions and those whose missions are directly related to securing the Games.”

The principle of bonuses of up to 1,500 euros had already been established in a circular by the former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne in November. However, Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanin later angered unions by announcing that some police officers and gendarmes mobilized during the Games would receive up to 1,900 euros in bonuses.

On Saturday on franceinfo, Minister of Public Service Stanislas Guerini had already validated the idea of an “additional scheme” benefiting the “security forces.” In the document seen by AFP, the administration specifies that the bonuses will be paid “from October until the end of 2024.”

To avoid overcrowding public transportation, employees will be allowed to telework more than three days a week and the annual limit of compensated telework days will be raised by ten days.
