Olympic Games | Paris 2024 | Swimming in the Seine, a promise yet to be fulfilled

A total of 1.4 billion euros has been spent on a “swimming plan”, with the goal of allowing the organization of long-distance swimming, triathlon, and para-triathlon events in the Seine this summer (July 26 to August 11) and opening it to the general public the following year.

In a few days, both Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, and Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, announced that they would also swim in the Seine. Knowing full well that this time, they will have to match their words with actions. This shows a great deal of confidence, and that the mission has never been closer to being accomplished even though it was difficult and sometimes painful. The road ahead is still long…

The efforts to clean up the Seine and make it safe for swimming have been ongoing for years. The city of Paris has invested heavily in improving the water quality and ensuring that the Seine is a suitable environment for recreational activities.

The decision to allow swimming in the Seine during the summer months is a significant milestone in the efforts to revitalize the river and make it a more accessible and enjoyable resource for the people of Paris. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this project.

While there is still work to be done to fully restore the Seine to its former glory, allowing swimming in the river is a positive step forward. It will not only provide a unique and refreshing recreational opportunity for residents and visitors, but also help to promote a greater sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility.
