Normalization of Traffic Between Brest and Paris, Not Yet Between Landerneau and Quimper

The resumption of full railway traffic is well underway in Brittany. According to SNCF Voyageurs, TGVs will be able to run again between Brest and Paris starting this Wednesday, “from the end of the morning”. This is thanks to the “reliability of the electrical supply provided by the Enedis teams”. It is worth mentioning that the railway company had encountered difficulties on this front following the passage of storm Ciaran – despite the clearing of the tracks – which prevented the TGVs from running between Brest and Saint-Brieuc and the TERs from Brest to Guingamp last weekend.

Another piece of good news is that the Guingamp-Carhaix line (part of which is currently being served by a bus service on Tuesday) is expected to fully reopen on Wednesday morning. As for the Plouaret-Lannion line, the first trains are scheduled to run normally by Thursday morning. Prior to this, repairs to the overhead lines, clearing of vegetation, track cleaning and some final checks need to be completed.

The only downside is that the Quimper-Landerneau line, which connects Brest to the Finistère prefecture by rail, is still not restored. The issue is that numerous trees are blocking the track, as well as six electrical supply points that are still not reconnected and a level crossing that needs to be repaired. While waiting for the “seven SNCF network teams” to finish relaunching the line, “the substitution by road has been strengthened thanks to bus companies being able to mobilize additional resources.”
