The new format for the Club World Cup, which will debut in 2025 and was officially announced by FIFA on Sunday, December 17, is taking shape. The competition, in which Paris Saint-Germain is assured of participating, will take place over nearly a month during the summer.

FIFA announced on Sunday, December 17, the establishment of a new Club World Cup in June 2025, in which Paris Saint-Germain, along with other European clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid, is guaranteed to participate.

When and where will the Club World Cup take place?

The competition will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025, and will bring together 32 teams divided into eight groups.

Which teams will participate?

The competition will include clubs from each of the six international confederations:

– The CAF (Africa) will have four teams, as will the AFC (Asia) and CONCACAF (North America). UEFA (Europe) will have twelve places, CONMEBOL (South America) six, and OFC (Oceania) one team.

– For Europe, four places were given to the winners of the 2021 (Chelsea), 2022 (Real Madrid), 2023 (Manchester City), and 2024 UEFA Champions League.

– Eight other teams have qualified for participation through the UEFA ranking, including PSG, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Porto, and Benfica.

How will the tournament unfold?

The group stage will be followed by a knockout phase starting with the round of 16.

“It’s an absolutely fantastic development, PSG is already qualified for the biggest and most important club tournament in the world,” commented a source close to the French club, adding that this will guarantee “significant new revenue” for PSG.
