Netflix’s Latest Spy Thriller Renews for Second Season After Successful Premiere

Streaming giant Netflix is notorious for its unpredictable renewals and cancellations of its original content. Despite receiving critical acclaim and prestigious awards, several series such as 1899, Top Secrets, and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance were canceled after a single season. However, according to Netflix co-president Ted Sarandos, profitable series are less likely to get canceled while considering the cost and performance of the content in the catalog.

One such series that has managed to gain renewal after a week of its premiere is The Night Agent. The thriller created by Shawn Ryan features FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who works in the White House basement guarding a phone that never rings. But when it does, Sutherland finds himself caught up in a conspiracy that reaches the highest spheres, including the Oval Office.

Starring Gabriel Basso, The Night Agent has quickly gained popularity, accumulating 166.7 million hours of viewing in its first days on Netflix. As a result, the series has been renewed for a second batch of 10 episodes, based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk.

While other Netflix original content such as Wednesday, The Sandman, and Cobra Kai had to wait weeks or months for their renewal, the relatively low cost of The Night Agent seems to have played a key role in its prospect for a second season. If you haven’t seen The Night Agent yet, all 10 episodes of the first season are available on Netflix, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in this world of intrigue that is already gearing up for a new consignment of chapters.
