Netflix’s ‘Hasta el Cielo: La serie’: A Sequel Worth Watching

Netflix has just released ‘Hasta el cielo’, the unexpected continuation of the 2020 film of the same name. The series, starring Asia Ortega, continues the story created by Daniel Calparsoro and Jorge Guerricaechevarría.

Plot

‘Hasta el Cielo: La serie’ revolves around Sole (Asia Ortega), who decides to break away from her father (Luis Tosar) and become the leader of her own gang of moonlighters. The clear protagonist, Sole is a woman who has to be respected in a world of men.

The Origin of the Series

Daniel Calparsoro and Luis Tosar explained the origin of this sequel in series format. They repeat as director and screenwriter respectively. The idea of continuing the original film as a series arose somewhat accidentally when Netflix and Vaca Films watched the movie. They loved it and the possibility of continuing the story as a series arose.

Calparsoro said that they did extensive research work for the film, and a lot of the material was left out when it came time to write the script. With the series, they can develop the characters and include the ones they had to leave out in the feature film.

The Cast

The clear protagonist is Asia Ortega, who is joined by Álvaro Rico (‘Elite’), one of the new additions. Notably, the main character of the original movie was Ángel (Miguel Herrán). Luis Tosar also repeats his role as an antagonist.
