Netflix Ad Plan Launches on Apple TV

Netflix advertising plan now available on Apple TV

Netflix’s ad-supported subscription, launched in November 2022, can now be used on Apple TV after technical hurdles were initially faced. The cheaper tariff could not be used on the Apple TV box in the first few months due to dynamic import of advertising blocks causing problems. However, with version 2.3, the tariff can now be used on the set-top box, removing the hurdle.

Initially launched in twelve countries, the ad-supported subscription costs 4.99 euros per month, three euros less than the basic tariff, and offers films and series in 720p/HD resolution. According to Netflix, an average of four to five minutes of advertising is played every hour.

However, the cheaper offer did not receive much demand initially, with only nine percent of all Netflix account openings in November in the US being for the new ad-supported subscription. Reasons behind this lack of interest could be the unavailability of titles on offer or the unavailability for the Apple TV.

Although the Netflix support page states that the advertising plan is still not available in the Netflix Windows app and on the PlayStation 3, users can now access it on Apple TV.
