Lyon struggles to beat Paris FC and takes a huge step towards the playoffs

The Lyon team managed to come out on top even when they were struggling. A brilliant inspiration from Ada Hegerberg, who scored with a powerful right-footed shot after a pivot control (84th minute), was enough for OL to beat Paris FC (1-0) on Wednesday night. Lyon remains unbeatable and continues its fantastic first half of the season, with a 12th victory in as many games played.

Paris FC had long believed they would be the first team to take points off Lyon, but ultimately had to resign themselves to a bitter defeat. While very solid, they were not proactive enough, clearly aiming for a draw. With just a few minutes left, their strategy could have worked.

It ultimately resulted in a second consecutive defeat for Clara Mateo’s teammates, who had already been beaten by PSG before Christmas. They could have still earned a penalty for a strong tackle on Louna Ribadeira in the penalty area (62nd minute).

With this confirmed perfect record, Lyon has practically already secured their spot for the playoffs (a new feature this season). They currently have an 11-point lead over PSG, who are second in the league. While the Jocelyn Prêcheur’s team has two games in hand and could reduce the gap to five points, it would still take a catastrophe to imagine this dominant OL team not making it to the finals.
