Lukas Mertens is always occupied: SC Magdeburg

SC Magdeburg: Lukas Mertens doesn't need his free time

This is unusual for the German champions!

SC Magdeburg has a whole week to prepare for the next game on Sunday (4:05 p.m.) against Gummersbach. In recent months, the SCM has been rushing from one game to the next through the Champions League and the Cup. Photo: ostsport.bild.de

Is so much free time an advantage?

“You can see it either way,” says national player Lukas Mertens (26) to BILD. “Actually, it’s always good when we play, because then we keep our rhythm. But because we play a lot and now we’ve had an international break with the national team, it suits us quite well. We can take care of ourselves for a week, catch our breath and do a lot of strength training.”

The tight schedule is not a problem for Mertens

The otherwise tight schedule is not a problem for the left winger. On the contrary. Mertens says, “I just like playing handball. I’ve turned my hobby into a job and that’s why I’m happy to put up with the hardships of travel.” He’ll be spared that at the home game this week.

With the extra week to prepare, SC Magdeburg is hoping to come back stronger than ever and secure a win against Gummersbach at the upcoming game.
