Live – Farmers’ protest: convoys converge towards Paris and Rungis, update on the blockades…

The mobilisation of farmers is continuing all over France on Monday, January 29th, despite the measures announced by Prime Minister Gabriel Attal on Friday, January 26th. New actions are planned for that day, with a “siege” of Paris. The government has promised new announcements within the next 48 hours.

Farmers are demanding “concrete” measures from the government, including a simplification of environmental standards, better pay, and the implementation of mechanisms to compensate for the non-road diesel tax. Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced “10 simplification measures” and the end of the diesel tax increase to try and address the farmers’ anger.

Farmers are intending to disrupt traffic around Paris and have announced the “siege” of the capital starting at 2 p.m. The government promised a “significant defensive system” on Sunday, while the FNSEA called for “calm” but warned that the profession’s mobilization would remain “total.”

In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the prefecture has reported disruptions on several highways due to the actions of the farmers and taxi drivers. Similarly, the president of the Young Farmers in Île-de-France announced that they do not intend to block Rungis, and farmers are prepared to remain mobilized for several days or weeks.

Numerous activities have been organized to further fuel the discontent of the farmers, including the grounding of numerous highways by taxi drivers and farmers, a call for a moratorium on free trade agreements, and the opposition of the Unité SGP Police union. This growing movement is not limited to France but has spread to other European countries as well. The continued mobilization of the farmers indicates that the issue has the potential to escalate further.
